support MAKSAM, a network of four neighborhood centers founded by Ethiopian volunteers in Hadera, helps Ethiopian-Israeli children integrate into mainstream Israeli society.

MAKSAM is operated by the Gidon Association of Ethiopian Jews, a non-profit organization committed to improving the future outlook for Hadera's young Ethiopian-Israelis by providing academic reinforcement, youth programs that strengthen social skills and self esteem, and educational programs that improve the coping skills of their local community.

MAKSAM's Hectic Summer

The summer months are a hive of activity at MAKSAM and Summer 2011 was no exception.

In July 150 MAKSAM pupils enjoyed our traditional "Day Camp on Wheels" three action packed weeks of fun. Our camp is built on the principle of providing the pupils with access to activities and attractions which they otherwise would not be able to reach.

A letter we received from one of the grateful parents thanked us for "providing my children with an unforgettable experience.... all the children enjoyed new and interesting experiences and came home with exciting stories each day".

During the first two weeks of August, 32 6-year olds about to start First Grade in Hadera's elementary schools enjoyed MAKSAM's Preparation for First Grade program to prepare them for that "Big Day" the first day of First Grade. Each pupil completing the program received a fully stocked schoolbag donated by the Hadera Paper Group, a long-term supporter of MAKSAM.
