The MAKSAM Center in the Peer Neighborhood, the first MAKSAM center, was established in 1999, serving ten pupils, in a disused bomb shelter underneath a public housing “hostel” for new immigrants.

With "a lot of help from their friends and supporters", the volunteers of the Gidon Association renovated the shelter, creating classrooms, installing air conditioning and communications infrastructure and transformed the derelict space into a purpose built “After School Center” which now serves over 70 pupils each day, from three neighborhoods in close proximity.

MAKSAM Peer is very proud of its singing group “The MAKSAM Flowers” which has represented MAKSAM at important municipal events and festivals over the years.

In addition to music, the pupils also enjoy enrichment lessons in Arts and Crafts.
